Current Issues

Issues with the current Feisty Fawn development release

• Hibernate: suspend/resume almost OK, wireless or usb-mouse doesn't work after resume. With options in /etc/default/acpi-support
  • HIBERNATE_MODE=shutdown : wireless not working properly
  • HIBERNATE_MODE=platform : wireless OK, but USB-mouse doesn't work
• Sleep: the machine goes to sleep, the sleep light comes on, it wakes up on a key press, but the screen is just blank and the keyboard is not working (for example caps lock and num lock)
• Boot options
• Built-in webcam

• Hotkeys not working out-of-the-box (however, can easily be mapped manually with System > Keyboard Shortcuts > Sound)

To-do: play around with the options in /etc/default/acpi-support, and file bug reports if this is not successful

N.B. the testing was done with the i386 desktop image (live CD) of each release.

Feisty beta

• Installation: boot options 'noapic' and 'nolapic' (+ corresponding change in /boot/grub/menu.lst)
• Hibernate: works if adding boot option 'nosmp', otherwise the kernel panics when trying to hibernate. However, wireless or USB-mouse is not working after resume. With options in /etc/default/acpi-support
  • HIBERNATE_MODE=shutdown : wireless not working properly
  • HIBERNATE_MODE=platform : wireless OK, but USB-mouse doesn't work
• Sleep: the machine goes to sleep, the sleep light comes on, it wakes up on a key press, but the screen is just blank and the keyboard is not working (for example caps lock and num lock)
• CPU frequency scaling: supported if booting with 'nosmp' and/or without 'nolapic' boot options
• About boot options:
  • with 'noapic' the booting doesn't stall
  • 'nolapic' doesn't actually seem to be necessary

  • with 'nosmp' the kernel doesn't panic when trying to hibernate and/or sleep (and one doesn't get a message about "Disabling IRQ #7", see also thread [http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=354257 354257] )

  • 'noacpi' is discussed for some types of dv6000 laptops, see the ["hp_dv6000_series_(dv6116eu)"] page

• Wireless NIC: the Broadcom 4310 card is partly working with the linux driver after extracting the firmware with bcm43xx-fwcutter (WEP working, but it's slow, WPA not working)

• Infrared: only working with the laptop's remote control (same as in MS Windows)
• Play/Pause key: only pause, does not play
• Webcam: Ekiga finds the built-in webcam, but doesn't work properly

Feisty Herd 5

• Installation: boot options 'noapic' and 'nolapic' (+ corresponding change in /boot/grub/menu.lst)

• Wireless NIC: not working out-of-the-box (the Broadcom 4310 device seems unsupported, see the [http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/?go=devices bcm43xx web page])

  • EDIT: it's a BCM4312 in this machine, [https://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/bcm43xx-dev/2007-March/004312.html the PCI ID database has it incorrectly listed]

• Infrared: only working with the laptop's remote control (same as in MS Windows)
• Play/Pause key: only pause, does not play

6.10 Edgy

• Infrared: only working with the laptop's remote control (same as in MS Windows)
• Multimedia touch key 'Volume Mute': does mute and unmute, but doesn't change color between red and blue according to status

Other known issues

Edgy 6.10

• The non-free nvidia driver and ndiswrapper don't work at the same time, this problem is discussed in thread [http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=334373 334373] in the Ubuntu forum and in bug # [https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/57355 57355].
